One of my favorite childhood memories is that of my brother and me playing near a tree…climbing it, and hanging from the biggest branch of it. Today I am blessed to step outside every day and see large beautiful trees in my front yard. My family and I watch them become the spring and summer homes to multiple types of birds, while we find relief in the shade of their branches.
Branches can be beautiful and glorious, or fun and faithful. But when you see them fallen all along your yard due to a storm or a strong wind, you see how powerless they are apart from the tree.
We rarely look up at a singular branch and praise its beauty and its strength. No, it is unity of all of the branches connected to the trunk that gives it its identity, its glory. It is because of the root that has been buried underground, and the trunk that has risen that each branch can even dare to live.
It is in Christ that we live and move and have our being. And apart from Him we can do nothing. Never have I seen a pile of branches, though together in unity on the ground, bear fruit or blossom.
I dare to you to stay connected to Life Himself…and bear fruit that will last!
Scripture to read:
Acts 17: 24-28
Father, You have allowed me to be a part of Your tree…Jesus, You are the vine and I am only a branch. Don’t ever let me dare to think that I can do anything on my own. Live through me, and receive all of the glory when fruit is borne. I love You, and I want to make Your Name famous. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
